BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION |
GAZ GASKELL is a British, UK-based musician, entertainer, bandleader and solo entrepreneur…"What you see is what you get!"
A good deal of his nearly 40-year professional career
has been spent abroad:-
- 4 years Italy in the late 60s (soul stalwart NEVIL
CAMERON & THE GROOVE)
- Two-month headline Australian tour with 70s ‘supergroup’
SUPERCHARGE
- Late 70s & early 80s UK fronting the original, ubiquitous GAZ & THE GROOVERS (R'n'R)
- 9 Years Germany/Switzerland (touring Austria, Netherlands,
Norway & France) with ‘concept’ band JUKE, taking in events like: Tina Onassis’
wedding in Maxim’s, Paris; Adnan Kashoggi’s villa in Marbella for New Year’s
Eve; Ben E. King UK/Europe tour; Glastonbury/London Palladium/Montreux Jazz
Festival etc.
Gaz brought back the multi-instrumental arsenal to his
native Merseyside just over 10 years ago
and at present he is active commercially with 5-piece Party Band GAZ
& THE GROOVERS (since 1998),
along with the more ‘relaxed’ BOSSA
NOVA DUO.
Both of these line-ups have successfully
provided a sense of style to all manner of corporate and private social functions.
Together with 80s Groovers comrade TOM MAGUIRE, Gaz has also maintained an enduring enthusiasm for Cuban music & Salsa; this led to the formation of Grupo HAVANA (temporarily re-activated as CUBA LIBRE). The two have perservered as studio project THE BOOGALOO BROTHERS (now playing).
Over the past couple of years, Gaz has been increasingly on call as a freelance plus "special guest" with his old confederate Albie Donnelly's Supercharge, R & B wizard ZOOT MONEY and Rock'n'Roll veterans KINGSIZE TAYLOR & THE DOMINOES. This has led to several nostalgic trips back to Germany and Switzerland, to the delight of loyal fans & friends.
Last year kicked off with his "HAPPY NEW YEAR, NEW ORLEANS" benefit at Liverpool's world famous CAVERN club. The operation entailed the formation of the "Merseyside Rhythm & Blues VOLUNTEERS" and occasioned a reunion with erstwhile Frankfurt comrade, New Orleanian & former "Gatemouth" Brown MD JOE SUNSERI on baritone sax. There was a follow-on benefit on 30 APRIL - with the courteous participation of The MERSEYSIPPI JAZZ BAND - to coincide with the "New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival" and maintain an awarenes of its beleaguered musicians.
A third of the way through this year, Gaz & Tom finally re-joined forces with [erstwhile Havana & Cuba Libre comrade] Bernardo Velasco and his group IGUANA and they continue their tropical music infatuation, with the accent on Mambos, Boogaloos & Salsa.updated February 2008
